Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability in SAP NetWeaver Application Server ABAP

Impact On Business

Impact depends on the victim’s privileges. In most cases, a successful attack allows an attacker to hijack a session, or force the victim to perform an undesired request in SAP Netweaver ABAP.

Affected Components Description

SAP NetWeaver Application Server for ABAP provides both the runtime environment and the development environment for all ABAP programs.x

Vulnerability Details

The SAP Netweaver ABAP Theme designer /sap/bc/theming/themes/ provides a WebDav where authenticated users can create a directory, upload various types of files as well as delete their own files. These files are readable by every user. Attackers could use this webdav to store malicious javascript then trick authenticated victims to click on it.

Solution

SAP has released SAP Note 3146336 which provides patched versions of the affected components.
