Unauthenticated Java Deserialization in SAP SRM

Impact on Business

A remote, unauthenticated attacker can exploit a Java deserialization vulnerability in SAP Supplier Relationship Management (SRM). Successful exploitation could allow the attacker to execute arbitrary commands on the operating system with the privileges of the SAP Administrator (sidadm). This has a critical impact on the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the system and its business applications.

Vulnerability Details

A Java deserialization vulnerability exists in SAP Supplier Relationship Management (SRM). The issue occurs because the application attempts to deserialize untrusted data from incoming HTTP requests without prior authentication. By sending specially crafted serialized data, an unauthenticated attacker could trigger the execution of arbitrary operating system commands on the target system with administrative privileges.

Solution

SAP has released SAP Note 3578900 which provides patched versions of the affected components.

The patches can be downloaded from https://me.sap.com/notes/3578900.

Onapsis strongly recommends SAP customers to download the related security fixes and apply them to the affected components in order to reduce business risks.
