SAP MDM Server – MDM Console Session Hijacking

Impact on Business

An unauthenticated remote attacker can hijack active sessions on the SAP MDM Console. This allows the attacker to access sensitive information, such as application logs and system details, and perform administrative actions, including the deletion of repositories. This vulnerability impacts the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the affected system.

Vulnerability Details

A vulnerability exists in the SAP MDM Console where session identifiers can be predicted or brute-forced by a remote attacker. The application does not sufficiently protect session integrity, allowing an attacker to identify valid session bytes without requiring authentication.

By exploiting this vulnerability, an attacker can hijack an existing session initiated by a legitimate user. Once a session is hijacked, the attacker can perform actions within the context of that session. Observed capabilities include listing and reading log files, which may disclose information about the operating system libraries and user activities, as well as deleting repositories, which can lead to data loss and denial of service.

Solution

SAP has released SAP Note 3610006 which provides patched versions of the affected components.

The patches can be downloaded from https://me.sap.com/notes/3610006.

Onapsis strongly recommends SAP customers to download the related security fixes and apply them to the affected components in order to reduce business risks.
