Open Redirection in SAP NetWeaver Application Server ABAP
Impact on Business
An unauthenticated remote attacker can redirect users to arbitrary untrusted sites using a malicious link. Since the link initially points to a trusted server, phishing attempts are more likely to succeed, potentially leading to credential theft or other malicious actions against the victim.
Vulnerability Details
An open redirection vulnerability exists in the SAP NetWeaver Application Server ABAP. The issue is located within the HTTP handler CL_HTTP_EXT_ITS, which is used by specific Internet Communication Framework (ICF) services. Due to insufficient validation of user-supplied input, a remote unauthenticated attacker can craft a malicious URL that, when clicked by a victim, redirects the user’s browser to an attacker-controlled website.
Solution
SAP has released SAP Note 3617131 which provides patched versions of the affected components.
