SAP ADS – Download arbitrary file from PDF attachment

Impact on Business

A highly privileged remote attacker can exploit this vulnerability to read arbitrary files from the file system of the application server. This has a high impact on the confidentiality of the system, as it allows access to critical information such as credentials and secure storage files, which could be used to further compromise the environment and business applications.

Vulnerability Details

The SAP Adobe Document Services (ADS) component contains a vulnerability where an authenticated attacker can manipulate specific parameters during a document generation request. By doing so, the attacker can force the application to embed arbitrary internal files from the host operating system into the resulting document. When the generated document is returned to the attacker, they can extract the embedded files, leading to unauthorized disclosure of sensitive information from the server.

Solution

SAP has released SAP Note 3536965 which provides patched versions of the affected components.

The patches can be downloaded from https://me.sap.com/notes/3536965.

Onapsis strongly recommends SAP customers to download the related security fixes and apply them to the affected components in order to reduce business risks.
