SAP Bex – Insert Arbitrary URL inside Favorites
Impact on Business
An authenticated attacker could exploit this vulnerability to inject arbitrary URLs into the favorites list of any user within the SAP system. This could be leveraged for phishing or social engineering attacks by misleading users into accessing malicious external sites from a trusted interface.
Vulnerability Details
The SAP Business Explorer (BEx) component contains a remote-enabled function module that lacks sufficient access control. This allows a low-privileged attacker to programmatically add URL shortcuts to the workplace favorites of other users without their consent or administrative privileges. By manipulating these shortcuts, an attacker can direct users to arbitrary external or internal locations.
Solution
SAP has released SAP Note 3488039 which provides patched versions of the affected components.
The patches can be downloaded from https://me.sap.com/notes/3488039.
