Arbitrary File Read in SAP SRM
Impact on Business
An unauthenticated remote attacker can exploit this vulnerability to read arbitrary files from the operating system of the affected SAP server. This can lead to the disclosure of highly sensitive information, including system credentials and configuration files, which could be leveraged to further compromise the system and its business applications.
Vulnerability Details
A web servlet service within SAP SRM does not properly sanitize user-supplied input used to construct file paths. Furthermore, the endpoint lacks proper authentication checks. This allows an unauthenticated remote attacker to craft specific HTTP requests that traverse the directory structure and read arbitrary files from the underlying operating system with the privileges of the SAP system user. Successful exploitation could result in the exposure of sensitive system files, such as secure storage keys and properties, which may contain administrative credentials.
Solution
SAP has released SAP Note 3567551 which provides patched versions of the affected components.
